Artistic Direction
Eric Vigié was born in Toulon, in 1962. Along with his studies, he studied music and theater at the Nice Regional National Conservatory. He plays the horn, the oboe and sings. He received his diploma in chamber music and music history.
In 1981, he decided to study as a director and went to the United States to study.
1982: He was hired at the Nice Opera as stage manager. In 1985, he became assistant director and worked on all the opera house’s productions. In 1986, he met Pet Halmen, the stage designer, which led him to train and work in set and costume design. After, he became director of his own productions in Nice, as well as for several other operas and festivals in Europe, the United States, South America and Russia.
1997: He became artistic coordinator at Madrid’s Teatro Real. He was in charge of the artistic preparation, planning, the artistic season’s general coordination, production and co-production of artistic organization, production budgets, co-production and production location, contracting artistic teams, research and the selection of productions for the opening of the new theater.
2002: Eric Vigié became the artistic director of Trieste’s Teatro Verdi, one of the twelve Italian national opera theaters. He was the first foreign artistic director to direct an Italian theater. During a two year period, he carried out an important upgrade of the Teatro Verdi. At the same time, he was also artistic director for the International Operetta, also located in Trieste.
2004: He was nominated as the Lausanne Opera’s Managing Director.
2010: He became the Avenches Opera Festival’s Artistic Director.
